ARCHIVIST'S NOTE 001 — The receipt in this issue is modeled on the oldest surviving grain-debt tally in the archive. Every debt written in ink can be erased. A debt written in shadow is permanent. This is the first law of the ledger, and the Princes do not yet know it.
